WINTER PARK, COLO., WINTER 2007 / 2008 – For 69 years, Winter Park Resort has been an award-winning leader in ski and ride education, known most recently for developing innovative teaching programs based on the resort's Guest Centered Teaching™ model. With the help of friendly and dedicated instructors from around the world, the Winter Park Ski & Ride School has taught more than 2 million guests since 1949.
Each winter, the Winter Park Ski & Ride School develops or enhances products designed to get people out on the snow, improve techniques and keep them coming back for more. For example, new lessons like the "Super Parallel," combined with old favorites like "Easy Start," provide guests with a full range of options that best cater to their needs. Super Parallel - New this year, Super Parallel teaches contemporary ski techniques for modern shaped skis. Intermediate students will learn how to move all parts of their body to best work with the technology of today's shaped skis. Taught by Ski & Ride School Director, Bob Barnes on Salomon 120 cm skis, Super Parallel lessons are designed to dramatically increase guests' overall performance and enjoyment. Super Parallel is an all-day class held on Fridays and is $119, which includes rental skis.
Easy Start – Recognized by the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA), this adult beginner class offers guests a 2 ½ hour lesson in skiing or riding that focuses on center-of-gravity skills. Developed by instructors at Winter Park Resort, guests will learn balance and how to turn, stop, move forward, slide sideways and control speed. Cost is $49 for a lesson and lift ticket or $59 for a lesson, lift ticket and rental equipment. A three-day lesson with lift ticket and rental is also available for $177.
First Tracks Private – For guests that ski blue terrain and are looking to improve their skiing or riding abilities with one-on-one attention, (not to mention the opportunity to snag first tracks before the crowds), a First Tracks Private lesson is great practice and makes even better sense! Lessons start at 8 a.m. and are $41.
Burton Learn to Ride and Salomon Learn to Ski Classes – These beginner lessons teach skills needed to turn, stop, go forward, slide sideways and control speed. Each all-day class uses specialty equipment designed by Burton for riders and Salomon for skiers. Both lessons are from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and include lift ticket and rental for $129.
Kids' Weekly Programs – Winter Park Resort offers all-day, multi-week lessons for kids. The three, four, six, and eight-week programs for skiing and riding promote advancement, socialization and leadership skills. Classes are divided according to age and skill level. Starting in January 2008, Winter Park Resort will offer transportation for kids from Denver for these programs. Classes are 8:45 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. and include a season pass, lesson, and lunch for $235 - $580.
Women's Clinics – Extremely popular since their introduction in the 1980s, these clinics are offered on multiple occasions over two-day periods for six hours per day and focus on progressive learning techniques. All programs are taught by female instructors. Ski programs are offered Jan. 14 - 15 and 28 - 29; Feb. 2 - 3; Feb. 14 - 15 and March 5 - 6. Burton Snowboard Camps are Dec. 29 - 30 and March 29 - 30. Cost is $240 and includes instruction and lunch.
Bob Barnes Mogul Ski Camps – Bob Barnes is known throughout the United States as the "mogul guru" and offers a fun approach to conquering moguls in this challenging camp where guests will move from loathing to loving Mary Jane's infamous bump runs. Spend seven hours per day with Bob Barnes, the director of Winter Park Resort's Ski & Ride School, and his group of handpicked Winter Park Resort instructors. Guests are grouped by ability. The camp is offered Jan. 26 - 27; Feb. 6 - 8; and March 7 - 9. Cost is $489 for three-day and $330 for two-day camps and includes bump coaching, indoor sessions with equipment and stance analysis, new equipment demos, personal video analysis and an après ski party.
