The National Sports Center for the Disabled Gears Up For Exciting Summer Programs and Special Events
Winter Park, CO – The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) begins providing summer recreational programs for people with disabilities beginning Monday, May 18, in Winter Park Colorado. With programs including therapeutic horseback riding, rafting, rock climbing, camping, kayaking and hiking, the NSCD caters to people of any age with almost any type of disability.
The NSCD will be offering all of the great camps and day activities that have been popular in the past, and is excited to introduce several NEW camps and activities. The new camps include a three-day River Camp for Individuals and Families and a Horse Camp where adults and teens will spend three days learning not only riding skills, but all about horses by grooming and feeding them as well as maintaining the area. New day activities include Sailing at Grand Lake, and the Community Cycling Club.
NSCD summer programs also include the popular Adventure Club for adults and children, designed to provide participants the opportunity to enjoy a different recreational activity each day. Activities include rafting, kayaking, resort activities, hiking, biking, canoeing, and rock climbing. Also returning this summer is the NSCD therapeutic Rock Climbing Program where various Denver organizations like the Colorado Center for the Blind can enjoy the thrill of rock climbing.
Teens with disabilities are invited to attend special camps geared just for teens, and another brand new camp, Adult Vacation Club, is geared toward adults searching for a very physically challenging adventure. In addition, fun family camps for families with one member with a disability are offered throughout the summer.
The NSCD will be hosting two exciting summer special events to support their programs. On July 17 – 19 the NSCD along with the American Red Cross will be hosting the 18th annual Fat Tire Classic. Mountain bike enthusiasts of all ages and abilities will enjoy a fun weekend up at Winter Park full of food, entertainment, and, of course, thrilling bike trails.
