Race Series Adds Crankworx Super Downhill Event
Winter Park Resort, Winter Park, Colo., Summer 2009 – The Winter Park Mountain Bike Race Series is the state's largest and best, attracting nearly 4,000 cross-country and downhill riders annually. Over the past 17 years, the race has developed a strong reputation for delivering professionally run races with fun, challenging courses that are administered by a friendly crew. Participants this summer can choose to participate in one, or all eight of the races, including the Crankworx Colorado Cross Country race on Saturday, Aug. 1 and Super Downhill on Sunday, Aug. 2. The series kicks off with the annual hill climb from the base of Winter Park to Lunch Rock at the top of Mary Jane on June 13, and concludes with the King of the Rockies course over Tipperary, rated as one of the top five mountain bike race courses in the world by VeloNews.
Divisions
Each race includes male and female rider divisions ranging from ages 15 and under up through 60 and over. The races feature a wave start system, allowing riders to start with fellow members of the same classification level. Medals are awarded for the top three riders for each age class in the beginner, sport, expert, and pro categories. Two additional fun classifications include the single speed, and the Clydesdale category for racers weighing in at over 200 pounds.
