From Mountain Biking and Hiking, to Colorado's Longest Alpine Slide, Winter Park Resort is Destination Fun
Winter Park Resort, Winter Park, Colo., Summer 2009 – Come summer, Winter Park Resort turns into a popular high-altitude destination with fun-filled activities sure to entertain active vacationers. From Colorado's longest Alpine Slide to more then 30 miles of chairlift accessible mountain bike terrain, Winter Park Resort is your destination for fun.
Mountain Biking at Trestle Bike Park
Trestle Bike Park at Winter Park Resort is home to over 30 miles of downhill mountain bike trails and connects with another 600 miles throughout the Fraser Valley. Both the Zephyr Express and the Olympia Express chairlifts operate with a bike transportation system, making Winter Park the only resort in the region with two lifts dedicated to mountain biking.
The Trestle Bike Park continues to evolve and returns this summer with 150 challenging features throughout the park. Trestle also offers skills parks throughout the resort, featuring jumps, pump tracks and drops to challenge beginner to expert riders. With 1800 vertical feet of terrain, mountain bikers are sure to find plenty of challenge. Best of all, after four years of joint planning with the United States Forest Service, 20 new trail segments are approved for expansion over the next few years.
For those looking for a tamer experience, valley bikes are available and a great choice for gentle trail riding. New this summer, guests can do a one-way rental on a valley bike from Trestle Bike Park Shop located at the base and ride it on the five mile paved Fraser River Trail and into the town of Winter Park. Leave the bike downtown at Grand Sports, and we handle it from there.
Catering to all levels and styles of riders, Trestle Bike Park Shop is the best place to gear up before heading out. Located at the base of Winter Park Resort, the shop offers everything from full body armor to bikes for rent, and carries a variety of clothing brands to get outfitted. Rental bike types include:
Downhill - riding downhill only with a desire to explore trail features
Backcountry - primarily riding downhill with some uphill climbing
Valley - paved trail or road biking
Bike rental packages with helmet start at $19.99.
Guests looking to make the most of their time on the hill can purchase unlimited chairlift access to Trestle with a "Trestle Bike Park All Day Pass" for $34/person or a half-day pass for $24/person. Save even more on a Trestle Bike Park Day Pass when you rent a mountain bike at the Trestle Bike Park Shop. Save 20% on a mountain bike rental when you reserve it 48 hours in advance at www.trestlebikepark.com.
The Adventure Pass
The Adventure Pass offers unlimited access for the day to the Alpine Slide, Mini Golf, Zephyr Scenic Chairlift, Human Maze, Outdoor Climbing Wall, GyroEXTREME and the Leaps n' Bounds Bungee.
Available for purchase at Winter Park Resort anytime during the summer, this pass provides value and convenience for just $49/person (5 and under free).
Hiking
For those who prefer to take things in at a slower pace, Winter Park Resort has designated two trails exclusively for hiking. A chairlift ride on the Zephyr Express delivers hikers to the trailheads of the Nystrom and Ute trails. The Nystrom trail follows a mountain ridge to Mary Jane's 12,060-foot summit for an invigorating workout. The Ute trail is a relatively gentle, downhill hike that crosses the wide-open trails of Winter Park Mountain, dipping into sections of dense evergreen forest before reaching the base. Single Zephyr Express Scenic Chairlift rides are $15 (5 and under free).
Colorado's Longest Alpine Slide
Thrill seekers of all ages love Colorado's longest Alpine Slide at Winter Park Resort. New this season, guests will climb into new, state-of-the- art, alpine sleds equipped with runners and hand-held brakes before speeding their way down 3,030 feet of dips and swooping turns. The parallel tracks (one for slower riders and one for adrenaline junkies) are accessed from the Arrow chairlift. Ride the Alpine Slide for $15 (5 and under free) or take advantage of unlimited turns with the Winter Park Adventure Pass. Height restrictions apply.
Other Resort Activities
One-time access to all resort activities is available with an individual ticket, or purchase unlimited access with an Adventure Pass. All mountain activities operate from 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., daily, with the exception of the Zephyr Express chairlift which closes at 5 p.m. daily.
A popular brain-teaser for the directionally challenged is the Amaze'n Human Maze. Guests must find four different checkpoints in the resort's ever-changing labyrinth before exiting and posting their time. Players compete against the clock and each other while attempting to find the fastest way out. The Amaze'n Human Maze can be conquered for $10/person (5 and under free).
Putter around on the 18-hole Mountainside Mini Golf Course. This unique course depicts some of the features and folklore of Winter Park and the Fraser Valley. A round of 18 holes costs $10/person (5 and under free).
Guests reach new heights with the Leaps & Bounds Bungee. Harnessed and tethered by bungee cords, kids of all ages can flip and aim for huge air by jumping on this massive trampoline. Cost is $10/person (5 and under free).
For a truly unique experience, the GyroEXTREME is a human-sized sphere that allows not one – but two riders to move themselves upside down and all around to create a sensation similar to being in space. Cost is $10/person (5 and under free). Height restrictions apply.
To rise above the rest, slip on a harness and check out the Outdoor Climbing Wall. This 24-foot wall offers three different routes with varying degrees of difficulty and has an automatic belay system. Cost is $10/person (5 and under free) per climb.
Winter Park Resort has become a haven for geocaching. Known as a high-tech treasure hunt, folks of all ages are invited to hunt for three dozen hidden caches on and around the mountain using hand-held GPS receivers. Search for our kid caches and find all sorts of treasures! GPS units are available for rental for a nominal fee. For more information on cache locations, visit www.Geocaching.com.
