Summertime in Winter Park & The Fraser Valley brings a variety of adventures to challenge every outdoor enthusiast!
Winter Park, Colo., Summer 2009 – Mountain biking, whitewater rafting, kayaking, horseback riding, golfing and nearly every other imaginable adventure awaits outdoor enthusiasts in Winter Park and the entire Fraser Valley this summer. A quick 90 minutes from Denver, Winter Park and the Fraser Valley provide adventure and escape for the adrenaline junkie and the soul-searcher alike.
Can’t wait to get that bike out of storage after a long winter? Winter Park isn’t called “Mountain Bike Capital USA™” for nothing! More than 600 miles of biking trails winding through public lands, such as the Arapaho National Forest, Rocky Mountain National Park and the Indian Peaks Wilderness offer the perfect challenge for any bike lover. At 9,000 feet, riders will enjoy the crystal clear sky and take in the pure mountain air in this wide open space. Mountain biking events occur all summer long from June to August. Events include the Winter Park Mountain Bike Series, the Red Cross Fat Tire Classic and Crankworx Colorado.
Winter Park Resort also recently completed the Trestle Bike Park offering 30 miles of downhill free-ride trails with over 150 features including tabletop jumps, elevated stunts, drops and banked cruisers. The Olympia Express and Zephyr Express lifts operate during the summer to take bikers to the top of the mountain.
Ready to ride the rapids? Grand County is the birthplace of the magnificent Colorado River, offering visitors unparalleled opportunities for whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing and even fly-fishing! The 20-mile stretch of the Colorado River downstream from Granby is a designated “Gold Medal” trout stream; and along with the Fraser River, Arapaho National Recreation Area and other smaller streams and lakes in the area, offers excellent conditions for all types of lake or stream fishing. Various outfitters throughout Grand County are happy to assist with half or full-day trips.
Are rolling greens your idea of wide open spaces? Golf the day away at one of four distinct mountain courses, offering golfers a variety of terrain and layouts to choose from. And, of course, the beautiful Colorado Rocky Mountains provide a stunning backdrop for any round of golf.
Prefer to walk a little closer to the wild side? Venture over to Rocky Mountain National Park, where many of the 355 miles of hiking trails start on the park’s southern side, closest to Winter Park and the Fraser Valley. Rocky Mountain National Park offers every option from easy strolls to day hikes and backcountry treks. Visitors often bump into other park inhabitants including moose, eagles, big horn sheep and elk.
In addition to Colorado’s wide open spaces, Winter Park and the Fraser Valley are Colorado’s summer event place.
