Construction for New Downhill Terrain Begins Immediately
Winter Park, Colo., September 22, 2008 – Winter Park Resort is excited to announce the approval for 9.8 miles of new downhill mountain bike trails to be added to its Trestle Bike Park. This new terrain, approved by the United States Forest Service, will bring the resort's total downhill mileage to 38 miles and include more features such as excavated jump trails. The build-out for these new trails starts immediately and is part of a four year plan to elevate Trestle Bike Park's downhill mountain bike terrain. Guests to Winter Park Resort will see new trails and features as early as next summer.
"These new trails provide monumental change to Trestle Bike Park," said Bob Holme, Terrain Park Manager for Winter Park Resort. "Everything from our daily downhill mountain bike offerings to our major freeride mountain bike events like Crankworx Colorado will be affected in a world-class way."
The decision to implement Winter Park Resort's proposed trail projects was signed on July 28, 2008 by Glenn Casamassa, Forest Supervisor of the Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forest and Pawnee National Grassland. This decision allows for Winter Park Resort to construct 9.8 miles of new freeride mountain bike trails within the resort's permit area.
The analysis for this project began in 2006 with development of a proposed action and started into formal planning required by the National Environmental Policy Act late in 2007. Winter Park Resort, the Forest Service, International Mountain Biking Association, Gravity Logic, and interested community members worked together to bring all the elements of the project together.
Initial construction of Trestle Bike Park's new trail is currently underway with help from Gravity Logic out of Whistler BC; the masterminds behind Whistler's Mountain Bike Park. Trail cutting is expected to take place from now through mid-October with new trails expected to open for the 2009 summer season.
