Third Race of the Season Covered 18.8 Miles

Winter Park, Colo., July 21, 2008 – Race enthusiasts flew to the third race of the Winter Park Mountain Bike Series – a valley point to point on Saturday, July 19.  But no racer got there as fast as Dellys Starr (Dales Pale Ale/Spot Brand) who finished the 18.8 mile race with a winning time of 1:25:19.  Starr's time was just two seconds off the fastest time set by a female rider on the course, but had the fastest pace as organizers gad to route the course and extra two tenths of a miles up and over a water crossing.  Lisa Hudson (Feedback Sports), last year's point-to-point winner, settled for second in 1:31:25, and Lauren Constantini (Sycip/Schwalbe) was third in1:33:53.

For the men's pro racing, Doug Ryden (Pro Cycling Bike Shop) finished in 1:15:04.  Michael Mathers (Rocky Mountain Racing) earned his third podium finish of the season, taking second in 1:15:13.  Micah Joseph (bikeparts.com) was close behind in third with a time of 1:15:25.  Matt Simmons (Pro Cycling) was also in reach of the leaders in fourth with a time of 1:15:58.  James Morgan (Eriksen Cycles) took fifth in 1:17:14, nosing Bryan Mickiewicz (Rocky Mountain Racing) out of the top five by three tenths of a second.

In the expert category, 48 year old racer Sharon McDowell Larsen was fastest and third overall for women.  Her winning time of 1:33:03 was nearly two minutes ahead of second place expert Amy Thomas (1:35:00).  Maegan Daigler was third for experts in 1:39:03 and on the men's side, Kelly Niquette led experts in 1:19:41.  Mike Hall placed second with 1:20:29 and Derek Strong third in 1:20:31.  Lyn Franklin won the single speed category for women in 1:34:50, and Dax Massey smoked the men's single speed in 1:18:09.

In the Sport category, Tracy Thelen led the women with a time of 1:40:43, with Phyllis Woodford in second (1:41:59) and Celeste Cannon in third (1:43:02).  Robert Conner led the men's sports in 1:24:01, Juan Rivero was second in 1:27:25, and Bruce Chesy finished third in 1:27:52.

The fastest beginner woman was Maggie Keller in 1:43:27.  Michelle Slingsby was second in 1:45:21 and Caroline Smith took third in 1:47:40.  Barry Carson led beginner men in 1:36:12, Don Bartow was second in 1:37:02, and Doug Lash was third in 1:38:49.
