June 11, 2008
– The sun is shining and the grass is green, but summer in Winter Park Resort doesn’t start until this Saturday, June 14, with the official opening day of the resort and its first mountain bike race of the season.

Located 67 miles northwest of Denver, Winter Park Resort offers such summer attractions as Colorado’s longest Alpine Slide, resort activities like the GyroXtreme, scenic chairlift rides on the Zephyr Express and mountain biking galore.  To celebrate this Saturday’s official kickoff to summer, Winter Park Resort is throwing into the mix a free Family Plaza Palooza filled with face painters, caricature artists, balloon artists and jugglers from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tickets to summer activities like the Alpine Slide and GyroXtreme can be purchased separately or for just $49 per person for an all day pass, unlimited use of the Alpine Slide, mini golf, Zephyr Express scenic chairlift, human maze, outdoor climbing wall, GyroXtreme and Leaps & Bounds Bungee.  Four Passes are also available for $129 at available Front Range King Soopers for a savings of $16 per person.

While fun at the base of Winter Park Resort takes on any pace it wants, thing on its mountains move fast.  This Saturday, Winter Park Resort gears up for the first race in the Winter Park Mountain Bike Race Series.  Known as the largest series of its kind in Colorado, this first race will kick summer into gear with a grueling 5.3 non-technical hill climb from the base of the resort to the top of Mary Jane Mountain.  Check in starts at 8 a.m.; the race begins promptly at 10 a.m.

Now through June 26, visitors can take advantage of 10 percent off Winter Park Resort’s newest lodging accommodations – Fraser Crossing and Founders Pointe.  Rate is based on per person, per night with a two night minimum stay, arrival date, unit type and availability.

Winter Park Resort is located just off of US Highway 40 before reaching the town of Winter Park, Colorado.  The resort is open seven days a week from June 14 through September 1, 2008, with extended weekend operations from September 6 - 21. Ticket windows open at 9:30am; activities open at 10am.
