Crankworx Colorado Comes to Winter Park Resort July 5-7

WINTER PARK RESORT, June 29, 2007 –
The countdown to Winter Park Resort's Crankworx Colorado is officially on given only one more week before this massive three day event is set to take place.  July 5-7, Crankworx Colorado will showcase Winter Park Resort as Colorado's ultimate mountain bike playground, featuring exciting events such as Cross-Country and Downhill Races; Super Downhill, Big Air and Slopestyle Contests, not to mention tons of spectator fun.

On Thursday, July 5, Crankworx Colorado will kick things off with its Super Downhill Competition and Slopestyle Qualifications:

The Crankworx Colorado Super Downhill consists of a mass start race over mainly single track terrain (passing opportunities will be at a premium).  Men and women athletes start just below the Lodge at Sunspot where they will face a short climb up to Long Trail then onto 300 Yard Bypass before Finishing on Downhill back to the base of the resort.  Men race at 11:45 a.m.; women at 12:15 p.m.

Also taking place on Thursday afternoon are the Slopestyle Qualifications.  Designed by Jon Cowan and Gravity Logic out of Whistler, this intense set-up consists of a single-line course featuring drops, dirt jumps, and elevated wall rides, not to mention elevated stunts!  Slopestyle qualifications begin at 12:30 p.m.  From there, the top ten riders will advance to the semi-finals and super finals on Saturday.

On Friday, July 6, Winter Park Resort introduces competitions that defy gravity with its Downhill and Big Air Competitions.

The Crankworx Colorado Downhill event features freeride-inspired obstacles including drops, jumps, banked c-turns, and elevated bridges.  The Downhill is open to athletes of all ages with professional and amateur divisions for male and female classes. The men's amateur race starts at 10:45 a.m. followed by the women's amateur division.  Professional men will start at 1:45 p.m. immediately followed by professional women.

Last but not least, athletes will defy the laws of gravity with a Big Air Jam / Sickest Trick Contest scheduled from 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.  Taking place on the Slopestyle Course, athletes have the option to choose any feature within this unique course to produce the crowd's and judges' biggest reactions.

On Saturday, July 7, Crankworx Colorado saves the best for last with a 23 mile Cross-Country Race in the morning and Slopestyle Semifinals and Super Finals in the afternoon.

The Winter Park Mountain Bike Race Series meets Crankworx Colorado during the Crankworx Colorado Cross-Country Race, as 600 racers from Colorado and the nation are scheduled compete in this combined event.  Starting at 9 a.m., racers will test their legs and their lungs during this intense course, starting at an elevation of 9,075 feet and then climbing to an elevation of 11,025 feet.  In the end, racers will cover almost 23 miles before reaching the finish line at the base of the resort.

Saving the best for last, Crankworx Colorado will come to an end with the Slopestyle Semifinals and Super Finals taking place at 4 p.m.  Riders will have two runs each to wow the crowd before the judges make their final pick for advancement.  The top 12 riders from the semifinals will then advance to the Super Finals, where each rider has two more turns to go big before the winners take all and the losers go home.

All Crankworx Colorado events are free and open to the public.  However, any spectator lift access requires the purchase of a lift pass.
Spectator activities taking place at Crankworx Colorado include an outdoor expo, pro riding demonstrations, free live music, and entertainment.   For a more complete list of daily events and activities, visit www.crankworxcolorado.com
