Bob Barnes, International Authority and Director of Ski & Ride School, Incorporates 34 Years of Expertise into Advanced Techniques
Winter Park, COLO. (December 2007) -- Building upon its 69-year heritage of award winning teaching programs, Winter Park Resort is introducing "Super Parallel," a progressive teaching module where students learn contemporary ski techniques that improve performance on today's high tech skis. Bob Barnes, Winter Park Resort's Ski & Ride School director and an internationally known authority on ski and ride methods, developed the program that provides insights on how guests can use their weight and their own physiques in harmony with today's advanced equipment that features new shapes and components. Super Parallel is an all-day class held on Fridays and is $119, which includes special Salomon 120 cm rental skis designed for carving.
"Super Parallel teaches students how to use individual body types and strengths in order achieve the best performance on today's advanced shaped skis," said Bob Barnes, director of Winter Park Resort's Ski & Ride School. "While most guests have upgraded to new equipment, many skiers still use the old bi-pedal push action and exert too much energy. Super Parallel demonstrates these new techniques making learning more enjoyable, and ultimately, takes performance up to the next level."
Barnes and his handpicked team of instructors teach Super Parallel classes on Salomon 120 cm short skis. According to Barnes, "Super Parallel will dramatically increase students' overall performance and enjoyment of the sport."
In addition to Super Parallel, Barnes has introduced a multitude of teaching practices and programs, including: EASY START, recognized by the National Ski Area Association during which guests receive a two and half hour-hour lesson on skiing or riding focusing on center of gravity skills (Cost is $49 for a lift ticket and lesson or $59 for a lift ticket, lesson, and rental equipment.) and; BOB BARNES MOGUL SKI CAMPS, a very popular program where Barnes and his team teach guests how to master the skills required for bump skiing. Guests are grouped by ability and filmed. Camps are offered January 26-27; February 6-8; and March 7-9. Cost per camp ranges from $330 to $489, prices subject to change.
For Barnes, creating new and useful teaching programs is a labor of love. He's been the director of the Ski & Ride program at Winter Park Resort for 12 years and was previously the director similar programs at Crystal Mountain and Deer Valley. For eight years, he was one of 10 elite members of the Professional Ski Instructors of the America National Demonstration Team that traveled internationally.
