NEW TRESTLE BIKE PARK RACE SERIES STARTS JUNE 26

Friday Evening Races Open to Families, Youth, and New Riders

Winter Park, CO, June 22, 2009… The Winter Park Competition Center launches a new mountain bike race series on select Friday evenings, starting June 26.  The Trestle Bike Park Race Series is designed especially for youth, families, and new riders, but offers plenty of challenge for the experienced, gravity-fed racers.  This new series features a majority of gravity events mixed with a few short-circuit cross country races, making it a great way for new racers and riders of all ages to try racing.

The first race of the season will start at 6 p.m. and will be a short circuit, cross-country course.  An introductory registration fee for the first race is now available online at www.trestlebikepark.com or by calling the Winter Park Competition Center by 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 25 for $20/person.  Day-of registration will be available $25/person.  Registration fees for youth ages 15 and under are $10 off.  All future Trestle Bike Park Races will be $30/person and $20 for 15 and under except for the Gravity Fest Finale on September 20 that features a super downhill and downhill together for just $40 (or $30 for 15 & under).

This race series will have an open category for experienced riders, male and femal age classes for 12 & under, 13 - 15, 16 - 18, 19 - 29, 30 - 39, and 40 and over, for racers who are just getting into mountain bike racing. Medals will be presented to the top three male and female winners in each category.

Following this Friday's race, a post-race party and awards ceremony will be presented by Lime featuring free appetizers and drink specials for racers.  Post-race parties for the rest of the season will rotate through restaurants in the Village at Winter Park after each race.

Future Trestle Bike Park races will be held in conjunction with Freeride Fridays at Winter Park Resort starting July 10.  Freeride Fridays is a new family-focused summer program that begins at 4:30 p.m. and offers extended Trestle Bike Park hours, live music, an evening barbecue on the decks of the mountaintop restaurant, The Lodge at Sunspot, and family activities in The Village at Winter Park, including outdoor movies and live music.

Race 1: Friday, June 26 – Short Circuit, XC
Race 2: Friday, July 10 – Downhill
Race 3: Friday, July 24 – Downhill
Race 4: Friday, Aug. 21 – Super Downhill
Race 5: Saturday, Sept. 19 – XC Circuit Roof of Rockies
Race 6: Sunday, Sept. 20 – Gravity Fest (Super Downhill & Downhill)
