WINTER PARK, COLO., March 24, 2008 – This spring, celebrate the return of warmer days and amazing slope conditions with Spring Blast – Winter Park Resort's huge three-weekend, end-of-season, festival presented by Snickers. Starting March 29, Winter Park kicks it off with a huge Party at the Park weekend. April 5 is Family Weekend, and April 12, join us for a Throwback to the 80s weekend sure to rock your ski socks off! Finally, on closing day April 13, Winter Park sends the season out in style with the 40th annual Coca-Cola Spring Splash
SPRING BLAST EVENTS
March 29 - 30: Spring Blast - Party at the Park
Join us at Winter Park Resort as we kick off the spring season with the Winter Park Spring Blast. Relax with drink specials on the decks of the Derailer Bar; enjoy live music Saturday afternoon with live music by Brethren Fast from 1-5 p.m., shop end of the season blowout sales in base area shops; and get free bump and telemark tips from the Winter Park Ski & Ride School on both Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. from the top of the Prospector chairlift.
March 29: Dummy Downhill Race
The only competition of its kind in the state, this outrageous event features "dummies" of every shape and size careening down Lower Village Way as their builders compete to capture top prizes in a number of categories including Best Crash, Longest Distance and Best Dummy. The Dummy Downhill Race starts at 12 p.m. followed by live music by Brethren Fast from 1-5 p.m. in the plaza.
April 5 - 6: Spring Blast Family Weekend
Family Weekend is sure to delight children of all ages with a carnival atmosphere featuring free face painting, stilt walkers, jugglers, and caricature artists from 12-3 p.m. in the plaza. Adults will enjoy great drink specials at the Derailer Bar; and bluegrass in the Plaza by local favorite Hunker Down playing live in the plaza from 2-6 p.m.; and great deals at the end-of-season blow-out sales at base area shops. On the slopes take advantage of free bump and telemark tips from the Winter Park Ski and Ride School starting at 1 p.m. from the top of the Prospector chairlift.
April 12 - 13: Spring Blast Throwback to the 80s
Dust off your finest day-glow apparel, straight skis and old school one-pieces and slide back to the 80s with a retro ski party meant to break all the fashion rules. Valuable prizes are up for grabs on Saturday in the second annual "Dress Your Dog Hot" contest for pet dogs and old school 80s adult costume contest both starting at 1 p.m. in the plaza. Also taking place at 1p.m., Winter Park Resort Ski and Ride School is giving away free bump and telemark tips starting from the top of the Prospector chairlift. Later, soak up the sun with an afternoon drink on the deck of Derailer Bar featuring specials and live music by The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band from 2-6 p.m.
April 13: Coca-Cola 40th Annual Spring Splash
Born at Winter Park Resort, this classic spring tradition is the oldest of its kind and celebrates its 40th year! Competition begins at noon with skiers and riders struggling through obstacles on the Larry Sale race course in an attempt to skim across an icy pond to reach the finish line and post a time. Cash prizes totaling $4,000 and season passes are up for grabs, so register now for your Spring Splash slot at www.winterparkresort.com. Spectators can catch all the fun from the West Portal decks while enjoying live music by Great American Taxi in the plaza from 2:30-6 p.m.
