Summer is an important time for skiers. It is a time of opportunity. An opportunity to separate yourself from the pack. In the winter, everyone is motivated, training hard, shooting for their goals. In the summer, since there is not regular training, the responsibility falls on you. If you're serious about being a better competitor, you need to pay attention to what you do this summer. The most important thing you can do it to develop some good habits in conditioning and in mental skills training.
The summer should be broken into phases, starting with a very important period of "active rest." Take a break from serious ski training. Stay active, but take it easy. Overdoing it in May will be counter-productive come October when you really need to be working hard. You deserve a break, no matter what you thought of your season!
Use the May conditioning and trampoline camp (see below) as a trigger to start into your summer dryland routine. Everyone should do this camp, it will remind you why this is important. May, June and July are about building a base. Endurance activities like running and biking, strength training with a focus on higher reps and lighter weight with perfect form are the focus. Lots of core strength (stomach and low back exercises). And don't forget about stretching.
