Program Offerings

Why do we love ski racing?  It's the rush of speed.  The camraderie of the team.  The confidence you gain on skis.  The feel of the perfectly carved turn.  No judges, it's just you and the clock!

Why Winter Park?  The mountain, the staff, and our families.  No other ski area in Colorado offers so many trail options for race training, so we can match our training venue for upcoming competition needs.  Our staff is one of the most veteran in the state, with most coaches certified in the USSA Coaches Education system.  Our families are great people that celebrate the journey to success and support all of our athletes.  Our alpine race program has options for racers who are just starting out all the way up to those aspiring to reach the Olympics.  We work to help you reach your goals.  Look below to see what program best suits you.  Remember that Winter Park season passes or Rocky Mountain SuperPasses are included in all program fees.

NEW! Bonus Training Program at Echo Mountain

Back by popular demand, Front Range ski racers can enhance their training program with our night training program at Echo Mountain on Wednesday and Thursday nights.  Echo Mountain is just fifteen minutes from Evergreen, and offers good terrain and lighted skiing at night.  Our Echo Mountain training program will be staffed with Competition Center coaches and will feature lots of video and fast turnaround for productive sessions.  Ability and age class level athletes are invited to try our 1-night or 2-night a week program, and YSL and Masters participants can sign up for our 1 night a week program.  10-session punch passes or nightly drop-in is also available.  Any USSA level skier is welcome to join us.  Wednesday night training for ability, age class, and Masters racers.  Thursday night training for ability, age class, and YSL skiers.  Click Here for full details.

Team Discovery

Advice in the Start Gate

THE PLACE TO START! Team Discovery provides budding young ski racers the start they need to become great skiers. Our goal is to develop solid all-around skiing skills by using a variety of drills and progressions taking advantage of all the mountain's terrain. Team Discovery is an appropriate stepping stone from Park Sharks and NASTAR recreational racing into the more competitive USSA (US Ski Association) circuit. Strong skiers that can ski all of the terrain on the mountain but have never been in a racing or teaching program can also start here. Skiers are grouped by age and their ability during the first weeks of the season, and ski with the same professional coaches throughout the season for consistency and individual attention.  The first day of training for the 2009/2010 ski season is November 21, with Saturday training sessions through March 27. Team Discovery is for skiers ages 6-18.  Click here for the 2009/2010 season program flyer.

Team Accelerate

Taught by one of the most veteran coaching staffs in the state, Team Accelerate provides refinement and development of skiing and racing skills with the emphasis placed on strong technical fundamentals. Racing tactics, technique and all mountain skiing are practiced. Team Accelerate racers compete on the USSA Age Class circuit.  Team Accelerate trains on Saturdays and Sundays and is for racers ages 7-14. It is a logical next step from the Team Discovery program.  However, strong all-around skiers who are ready to jump right into racing may move directly into this program.  Training for the 2009/2010 season is set to begin on November 21.   Click here for the 2009/2010 Team Accelerate program flyer.

Team Accelerate Plus

Extra speed training is the racers' favorite

SPEED AND BEYOND! Team Accelerate Plus is designed for the motivated weekend racer looking for an extra day of training each week on Friday. Team Accelerate Plus racers often train with the full-time coaches and athletes on Fridays, taking advantage of extra speed training sessions and focused technical drill work. Conditioning sessions and sports psychology (goal setting, mental imagery, performance planning, etc) discussions follow skiing on Fridays.  We encourage our Team Accelerate Plus racers to take part in at least one of our summer ski camps.  Team Accelerate Plus on-snow training for the 2009/2010 winter season is scheduled to start on November 13.   Click here for the 2009/2010 Team Accelerate Plus program flyer.

Team Breakaway

Breakaway skiers love speed, photo by Todd Seeley www.hypeshot.comSTILL RIPPING! Team Breakaway is a Saturday-Sunday race training program designed for athletes ages 15-21. This group works to hone racing skills in all four racing disciplines (slalom, giant slalom, super G, and downhill), but also spends lots of time ripping turns over the whole mountain and becoming great all-around skiers. Many athletes race on the USSA circuit in the Smartwool Series and may race in some FIS races.  Others use this training to supplement their high school racing program.   We encourage Team Breakaway members to take part in our summer ski camps.   On-snow training begins on November 15 for the 2008/2009 season.  Click here for the 2009/2010 Team Breakaway program flyer.

Full-time Team Winter Park

EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS! Full-time Team Winter Park is a highly intensive program dedicated to the serious, motivated and experienced racer.  Our program offers a forum where dedicated athletes can achieve their highest aspirations in sport.  The team trains regularly September through April with several optional summer camps and projects both on and off snow. Participants also take part in supervised dryland sessions throughout the summer and fall. Winter training takes place in the afternoons on Tuesdays through Thursdays, and all day Fridays through Sundays. (East Grand Middle School students train the above days except for Wednesdays.) Middle school and high school athletes enroll in the East Grand School District where schedules are arranged for core classes to take place in the morning, and student/athletes are transported to the ski area at lunch time for afternoon training.  East Grand is on a 4-day school week, so skiers have a full day of training on Friday, it doesn't get any better.  Post graduate athletes will train on some weekday mornings for more individually focused sessions. On-snow training in Colorado begins in late October off-site and the first weekend of November at Winter Park. Training takes place mainly on our FIS race trails, but we're able to move all over the mountain to practice on a variety of terrain for upcoming events.

The full-time program has helped develop members of the United States Ski Team, Junior World Championships competitors, NCAA All-Americans and numerous Junior Olympic medalists.

Full-time Team Winter Park requires advance approval from the head coach. Commitment and attitude are the most important attributes we're looking for; with dedication and a positive outlook, skiing performance will take care of itself.   Click here for the 2009/2010 season Full-Time Team Winter Park program flyer.  In addition to the program registration, new skiers to the full-time program must fill out a full-time program application form and mail it to Jeff Burrows, Winter Park Competition Center, P.O. Box 36, Winter Park, CO 80482.
